Limen: What the new evidence changed

More evidence. Same decision. One missing Science source was recovered, another was partially recovered, and the bounded patent map expanded. The additions improve source custody and sharpen known burdens. They do not produce a complete invasive route, an optimized removable comparator, an eligible head-to-head comparison, or authority to proceed.
What the Science recovery added
Six exact recovery targets were pursued. One was RECOVERED, one was PARTIAL, and four were NOT_RECOVERED. Those labels describe source custody, not whether a scientific route succeeded or failed.

Why the denominator and burden table stays open
Raveh remains an acute, external, wrong-endpoint record. The accepted accounting remains 12 enrolled, 9 in the repeated-measures performance, gaze, and task analysis, and 12 in the off-road analysis; the missing reason for the other three is not reported.
Petrini now makes several burdens more visible: one infection involving three implants two weeks after placement, one electrode exiting during sleep, antibiotic treatment, fewer electrodes for two participants, an approximately 45% late usable-channel reduction across three studied electrodes tied to connector/cable continuity under repeated cycles, and a separate external-connector break at week 20. Those are source-specific observations. They are not a pooled or general safety estimate.
The recovered material does not fill a complete-route denominator/burden table. It does not provide a matched invasive-versus-optimized-removable population, the same endpoint, the same follow-up window, complete missingness, route-wide non-wear/refit/recalibration burdens, or a prospectively fixed comparison.
Result: invasive exact arm UNKNOWN; optimized removable exact arm UNKNOWN; eligible complete head-to-head comparisons 0.
What the prior-art expansion added
The accepted expansion starts from 9 accepted seeds and records 18 delta families. It adds 20 citation relationships represented as 40 reciprocal directed rows, 9 non-patent-literature records, and 10 non-English records.
Fifteen family records received English claim inspection. One non-English family remains bibliography-only, and two other families remain bibliography-only. Bibliographic identity and citation adjacency make the map more traceable; they do not answer claim scope, present force, current ownership, novelty, patentability, or freedom to operate.
PAF-017 forward searching remains OPEN_BOUNDED. The expanded map is therefore a bounded continuation record, not a complete patent landscape.
Five boundaries in plain English
- A patent citation is not scientific validation. Citation adjacency does not show that a claimed arrangement works.
- Publication is not force. A published application or grant event does not establish a presently enforceable claim.
- An assignee shown on a publication face is not proof of present ownership.
- A non-English bibliography record is not a claim-scope conclusion; no machine-translated claim conclusion was accepted.
- Bounded non-retrieval is not proof that a source, event, capability, or failure is absent.
Patent evidence cannot close the Science comparison. Science evidence cannot establish claim scope or legal clearance. Neither record authorizes a product, implementation, program, or release.
The decision remains unchanged
The invasive exact arm remains UNKNOWN. The optimized removable exact arm remains UNKNOWN. Eligible complete head-to-head comparisons remain 0. The search remains OPEN_BOUNDED. The Science disposition remains PROPOSED_HOLD, not adjudicated.
Step 7 inputs are accepted as records, but the independent six-role panel was not convened and quorum was not assessed. HOLD_MISSING_INPUT is administrative only. It is not a scientific rejection, feasibility conclusion, route selection, or authorization.
What happens next
- Convene the actual independent six-role Step 7 review only when separately authorized. Qualified people must be nameable and contactable under that authority before attendance, conflicts, quorum, deliberation, or a disposition can be recorded.
- Recover the remaining exact source bodies without widening the question. Keep every failed or partial retrieval bounded to its named target and preserve the difference between a missing body and a negative result.
- Wait for a fixed implementation before jurisdiction-specific legal analysis. Only then may qualified counsel examine current claims, force, ownership, and other jurisdiction-specific status relevant to that exact implementation.
